NEW BALLS PLEASE

No it’s not Wimbledon. Thanks mainly to a grant from Scotmid of £490 the Club has been able to buy 48 Mitre footballs for next season. That’s two balls per team. Thanks again to Scotmid and to Kevin Gordon for applying for the grant.

This would have been our final week of the 2021 season had it not been for the Covid virus. Sadly a lot of our youngsters have missed out on two years of Boys Club football (and a whole lot more). Surely 2022 must be better and the signs are good with low infection rates (at least in Moray) and a vigorous vaccine programme. Hopefully we’ll be able to provide football again at Morriston next year. In the meantime enjoy the school holidays and stay safe.

SEASON 2021 CANCELLED


In a recent meeting of the Boys Club Committee it was decided with regret that in view of the on-going Covid crisis that it is too risky to go ahead with the 2021 season.

This is in spite of the vaccine being rolled out at speed throughout the UK. We did consider going ahead with registration (normally starting at the end of February) but reckoned this would just raise hopes unnecessarily.

In making this decision we have a duty of care not only to the players and their parents/ guardians but to the coaches, ground staff and those in general coming to Morriston to watch the games.

We will of course monitor the situation but for now – sorry no football this season.

MERRY CHRISTMAS (WELL – AS MERRY AS POSSIBLE)


Well here we are pre-Christmas with not a ball kicked in the Boys Club this season. The first time in 50 plus years. In terms of overall importance it rates low in the scale of 'important things' yet for morale -we've lost out.

Looking forward to next year we're all wondering whether it will be be possible to have some footie at Morriston.

The EBC Committee will meet in January to consider our options for the 2021 season. Be assured that our way forward will be determined by the safety of both the players and the coaches and of course the dads, mums, etc who provide transport and the friends and relations who provide support.

In the meantime have a great but safe Festive Season - actual or virtual. And (vaccine willing) we'll see you on the fields of Morriston in April.

2020 REFUNDS PROCESSED

Refunds for subscriptions should now be showing up in your accounts. Sorry for the delay. This was due to a difficulty with the agency that deals with our online payments. If you have not received your refund by Monday 13th please contact me by email (neil@anfotheringham.plus.com).

Many thanks to those who chose to donate their subscriptions to the Club. We'll need do something special for the boys next year.

2020 SEASON REFUNDS

Emails have gone out to those of you who paid the £25 subscription on line. A number of you have declined a refund which is in effect a donation to the club. For this the Club is most grateful. We are also heartened by the kind comments left on Facebook. There is a fair amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to set up the season and it’s nice when this is acknowledged.

For those who paid in cash we’ll be in touch by email to find out the best way to get a refund to you.

The schools close on Friday so best of luck to both parents and youngsters for this enforced ‘holiday’.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE:
2020 SEASON CANCELLED


It is with regret that we have to anounce that the 2020 season is cancelled due to the present emergency.

The Club was established in 1964 and this is the first time we haven't managed to provide youth football over the summer period. We shall return next year. Many thanks for the support of all the returning and new players.

Refunds will be paid in full - be patient. Those who paid by cash will be paid by separate arrangements.

ALLOCATIONS NIGHT

Just a reminder for all coaches (returning and new) to attend at Elgin City Social Club Boroughbriggs on Monday 16th March - 7pm. It's important that we have as many coaches there as possible in order to rate the players before allocation.

Also, Friday 13th March is the deadline for registration, after which the online form will be closed.

TEAM ALLOCATION

The deadline for applications will be Friday 13th March (this Friday). We are very nearly at capacity for this year. The forms will still be available after this date for a short time but it’s likely that you will be on the reserve list therefore send NO MONEY.

So what happens now. On Monday 16th March all the coaches meet. The applications are divided into juniors, intermediates and seniors by age. The coaches for each section then grade the ability of each player based on the coaches' previous knowledge of that player. (5=fantastic: 1=basic). The teams are chosen on the basis that the abilities of the players are evenly distributed to ensure fairness. The coaches are allocated their team and will contact the players - probably by the end of next week. We're short of Junior coaches so there may be some delay in the process. Be patient please.

The season starts week commencing Monday 13th April and the fixtures will be posted on this website. Before then we generally have a few friendly matches and some training – your coach will instruct you.

We still have some vacancies for coaching in the Junior section so if you have some spare time and would like to help out get in touch with either Neil Fotheringham or Tiger Porter (see Contacts).

2020 AGM

This year’s AGM will be of Thursday 5th March at 7.00pm at Elgin City Social Club (Boroughbriggs). All previous coaches and committee members are welcome as well as potential new coaches. As always I’m hoping for a good turn out as it’s the time to discuss new ideas and ways to improve the running of the Club.

Registration is going well with 279 applications although there are still have vacancies at Intermediate and Senior level.

2020 Season

A Happy New Year to all our members and coaches (a bit late I know).

Some important dates for your diaries are:

  • Registration goes online: Mon 17th Feb
  • AGM: Thurs 5th March – Boroughbriggs (7pm to be confirmed)
  • Registration: Sunday 8th March (for those not paying online)
  • Allocations Night: Mon 16th March
  • Start of season: Mon 13th April

As usual all registration will be done on line and full instructions will be included on this website. It’s on a first come first served basis so don’t leave it till the last minute. For those who (for whatever reason) don’t wish to pay on line we have a facility to pay cash or cheque on 8th march at Bouroughbriggs (Elgin City FC). More on this later.

As for the coaches a committee member will be in touch over the coming weeks to find out who’s up for another season and who is stepping down.
